Performers:
Josh Weinstein
Josh Weinstein is a composer, arranger, producer, and freelance musician originally from New York. His 2008 album "Love & Alcohol received airplay on nearly 300 stations worldwide, and CMJ charted. His previous album "Brooklyn Is Sinking" appeared on "Best of 2006" lists at both WFUV and npr.org. Josh has also had some of his songs licensed by MTV. Now based in San Diego, Josh is active as both a sideman and featured performer in nightclubs, concert stages and recording studios throughout southern California.
"As a songwriter, you spend a lot of time thinking about the world you live in. And as a parent, you spend even more time thinking about the world your kids will live in. Our job as parents--as citizens--is to send kids off into a better world than our own. Guns are the only mortal danger that we keep increasing the supply of. When there is a disease, we work to eradicate it. When there is a safety issue with a product, we work to fix it. But with guns, we make MORE of them. And the consequences keep getting worse. Enough. I am taking part in this concert to make my statement that we are taking back the world from the insanity of the glorification of guns." ~Josh Weinstein
Kimm Rogers
Kimm Rogers is a San Diego based singer songwriter. Her latest album, Where the Pavement Grows, is listed in the Best Pop Album category for the San Diego Music Awards. According to The Morton Report: Bill Bentley reviews, “Singers like Kimm Rogers come from somewhere else. They don't sound like other singers, don't write songs that pay attention to anything that's come before and, in the end, find a way to a land of their own invention. Call it inspiration or anything else, but it doesn't happen often enough, but when it does, attention should be given. Rogers lives near San Diego, but she calls the world home. She has latched her vision to a higher plane, and listening to her find a way to live there is one of the modern wonders. Sometimes she gets heard and sometimes she doesn't, but it's just a matter of time before that changes. Her time is coming.”
"Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, John Lennon. Each of these men proved that sometimes a single person can change the world. And they all lost their lives to gun violence. Columbine, Sandyhook, Aurora, Colorado, Pulse nightclub.......It pains me to think that among all of these innocent lives that have been lost may have been the next great president, the next great changer of the world. The only way to put an end to gun violence is to make gun laws that actually protect all people." ~Kimm Rogers
League of Liars
The League of Liars was born one fine autumn morning in the back of a Bentley touring car, en route to Cardiff-By-The-Sea (along the lackadaisical Pacific Coast Highway). Unified in the desire to provide the most believable and sweetest-smelling contradictions known to humankind, Sppike Mike (Bass), Diamond David (Guitar), Rumble T (Drums) and Micheal Fairchild (Vocals, Guitar) plot sonic assaults with Love-In precision. Blending blues, funk, folk, rock and pop genres in the creation of a super sweet and fun outcome that just can't be ignored. This sonic potion has garnered the boys much acclaim. From local music show live air play, The Local 94.9 and 91X Loudspeaker, to winning the 2011 San Diego County Fair's people's choice award with LOL has been invited back to play the fair ever since.
"Gun violence is out of control for one simple reason. People are way too willing to kill each other. It's the killing part that I personally oppose. I don't care if you use a car, knife or a gun. The killing must stop. We must learn to work out our differences in a less violent manner. It is simply time to respect life. All life. Every being’s life. Period." ~Sppike Mike
Kelli McCarthy, Chuck Vadun, Ron Marcus and Louis Barkley are San Diego based musicians who have played in various original and cover bands over the years, and have recently come together to form a band to perform at the Concert Across America.
“After Sandy Hook, I couldn’t stand by and watch any longer, so I joined the San Diego chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. I will continue to speak up and fight for change however I can, and music brings people together like nothing else.” ~Kelli McCarthy
“By participating in the Concert Across America, I’m able to add my voice to the growing chorus of those speaking out, singing out, and playing out against gun violence.” ~Chuck Vadun
“It’s time for all of us to come together to take a stand against gun violence, once and for all. Music is the bridge that can bring us all together. I’m honored to take part in this concert to unite us in addressing one of the most critical issues of our time.” ~Ron Marcus
“I’m doing this because guns really scare me. The fact that a single pull of a trigger can affect so many people and their lives is terrifying. Life is precious. Gun violence has become a part of our culture that is seemingly getting worse. If something isn’t done to curb the violence, stronger gun laws for example, it will only get worse. I worry for the world my children will have. They are already starting to use metal detectors in many elementary schools. The reason is gun violence and easy access to guns, for even little kids. That is just wrong and must be stopped.” ~Louis Barkley
